The opening round of 2011 is now in the books. The conditions were soggy but everything was very green. I opened the first two holes in sloppy fashion with a bogey/double bogey. The third hole, par 5, resulted in a very efficient par. My new approach for par 5s is playing for green in regulation. It seems that most people hit driver and then pull the club that gets them closest the pin. This usually ends disastrous because the shot misfires and lands in the woods and your then scrambling to minimize the bleeding. The goal is to hit driver or 3 wood, lay up with an iron that leaves me a comfortable wedge shot (100 yds) for my third stroke. If executed successfully, I'm in position for a birdie putt.
The round continued with poor tee shots but great short game chips and putts. The new putter is feeling great and the ball seems to be dropping.
